The 4th Republican primary presidential debate was a sad display of the current state of the Republican Party and the American nation in general. It was enough for one to quit America altogether or hide in shame for not standing up and running for political office himself.
When viewed from the point of view of the audience the establishment was portrayed on the left where it truly belongs, and those against the establishment were portrayed on the right — what surely in the minds of the Chris Cuomo audience represented the Party’s Right fringe.
And then, there was the “Holy Trinity” of female panelists who served as the moderators for one female candidate against four-less-one, male candidates. I suppose that, in the mind of the feminists at the Republican National Committee (RNC) that “gender-balance” had thus been achieved (3 males and 4 females). Surely, the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusiveness (DEI) specialists at NewsNation must have applauded the RNC’s accommodation.
So, there in the middle of the stage was Nikki Haley, the wife of a deployed US serviceman, and Ron DeSantis, a former member of the US armed forces. The “American” military, industrial complex that has provided our nation with endless wars and some phenomenal video footage since the close of World War II was well represented front and center. This was surely what Chris Cuomo meant during the post-debate analysis when he criticized Vivek Ramaswamy for bad staging.
Did Henry Kissinger ever roll his r’s as well as Vivek Ramaswamy? As an American I felt right at home. So very Christian …. Well, at least, Vivek was actually born and raised in the United States — a first generation American aspiring to the grandest title of American citizenship. Our founding fathers would have been proud!
In effect, there were only two people on that stage to whom I am the slightest bit attracted, and they both stood on the left side of the stage looking out into the audience. Unfortunately, the one who claims to have achieved so much as governor of the State of Florida could never have done so without the help of a Republican legislature. As of November 2022 the Republican Party of Florida controlled the offices of governor, secretary of state, attorney general, and both chambers of the state legislature. In effect, one is left to ponder how much of Governor DeSantis’s rhetoric about great achievement in the State of Florida is not just bravado. What are the chances that the 2024 presidential winner would enjoy a majority in both houses of Congress?
In the end, it is one thing to sign into law or veto laws that others legislate; it is quite another to rally the opposition in your favor for the good of the nation. Ron DeSantis simply lacks the charisma of his newly established fellow Floridian, Donald John Trump.
Vivek Ramaswamy is far more dynamic and persuasive. Simply, I am still struggling with his unAmerican r. I, too, am a first generation American on my father’s side, but my mother was second generation, and I had to learn to roll my r from a German opera singer while visiting my father’s birthplace in what was then the other side of the Iron Curtain.
No, in the end. Donald Trump remains the best candidate and despite his many faults, I do not see anyone else who can move the nation, as well as he. Yes, it will take many more years than four to finally the put the nation back on course, but for the moment we need someone who can stem the global socialist tide. Beside, it would give the like’s of Vivek four more years to perfect the American r.
